The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) will conduct the first-ever national test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on November 9th at 1:00 pm CST. EAS is a public alert and warning system that allows the President of theUnited States to address the American public during a national emergency. It also is used by state and local authorities to deliver important information, most commonly used for emergency weather alerts and advisories by the National Weather Service.
This test will last for around 30 seconds and will be used to examine the effectiveness and reliability of the federal warning system. It will be conducted on all TV, radio, cable and satellite systems throughout the United States. For more information about the test or the EAS, go to http://transition.fcc.gov/pshs/services/eas/.
